Conversation with a 5 year old

Reuben: I am going to get a 1 bedroom house

Mom: Really, who will cook for you?

Reuben: I will

Mom: Who will clean for you?

Reuben: I will

Mom: Who will tuck you into bed at night?

Reuben: I will

Mom: What about the nights when you come into my bed?

Reuben: I won't have scary dreams in my 1 bedroom house

Mom: Will you have a wife?

Reuben: I can't have a wife until I am older, you know like 8.

Mom couldn't respond because she was laughing too hard, who knew 8 was old?

I should be studying; however.....

I have been thinking a lot lately (this could really get dangerous). To start with have I ever told you how much I hate depression. I am finally going on just over a month with really good days. The kind where stress is related to things worth stressing over. You know children's education, family issues, the stuff everyone deals with on a daily baises. A welcome relieve! So, this has lead to my thinking... am I doing better because my baby is almost 2 years old and that is generally how long postpartum depression lasts? Is it because all the hours of counseling are paying off? Have I really learned to let things go? Or is it because I went back to school?

School leads me to my next item of what I think about....
I love, love, love school. I love that I have to get up and be somewhere for me, just me. How selfish is that! I love that I get papers back that have check-marks or stars on them. Heck, even just a score is great; of course, the higher the better. Not to brag but I am good at school. It is something I can do and get feedback from someone telling me I did well. My thoughts about school range from: 1. this is awesome they want to give me scholarships 2. I love what I am learning 3. I need to be spending more time with my children 4. School feels selfish for me

Needless to say I don't think I will be solving the world's problems. For today I will love my husband and children while I love school too!

Happy Birthday Grandma Brumbaugh!

Today is my moms birthday and all the kids and Emily thought that it would be a great idea to have a party for Grandma Brumbaugh.

We called Grandma to find out what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday and she wanted strawberry short cake.

Sorry we couldn't be with you today mom, but we hope that you had a great birthday.

p.s. Thanks Aunt Leslie for visiting and sharing in our exciting party!

I confess....

I have a friend from high school, who had a friend who did this post. So, I copy because I enjoyed reading about their confessions. Feel free to play along!!

  • I can't lie. I even went back to the Secretary of the State to pay more sales tax on a car once.
  • I love quiet!!
  • A good nap is a couple of hours.
  • I'm terrified of the dark.
  • I worry about anything. Lloyd says I worry enough for both of us.
  • I have always struggled with the "mom" I am.
  • I have been told I have it all together only to feel like many things are falling apart.
  • When I am really anxious I will smell Lloyd and it helps to calm me down.
  • I think everyone can benefit from counseling, even if there is no traumatic life experience.
  • I bake when I am stressed. Rolls, bread, cookies
  • I can't stand keeping things we aren't using.
  • I was sure we weren't going to have more kids after the two girls, we now call them Jackson, Reuben, and Nora.
  • I am not the person you want to be with in an emergency, I don't think well; though, I am getting much better.
  • I love going to school, I think it has made me a better mom.
  • I wish I could cry more often, it would be such a release.
  • The one thing I would do anything to avoid at any cost is having our family split apart.
