I knew the call might come...
We had even talked about the possibility
Planned on it to be truthful.
Jackson's teacher called tonight
recommending he repeat kindergarten.
Why do I feel like I failed?
Did I let him down?
Oh, I guess we will just add this on our
February list.

It's not motherhood if we don't feel guilt over our beautiful children. You did not let him down and I know this because you worry. It will work out.
All My Love,
My daughter Darby is repeating 1st grade this year and we are sooooooo glad she is. She is so much happier and school is much less stressful for her. Less stress for her means less stress for us. I don't think you will regret it.
Be there, I cried for a very long time when Marcies teacher recommended her be held back. I'm not sure still if we made the right choice to refuse to let them hold her back. I didn't like the idea of her repeating a grade with the same teacher. (Granted you don't have to worry about that.) This is a very personal situation. My only advice (good, bad, indifferent) try to remove yourself emotionally from the situation. Jackson is the one that has to pass kindergarten. I believe you already passed that grade! I know easier said than done. Good luck.
i know a very successful, handsome, attractive man that had to repeat a grade...for boys it's not so bad especially since his birthday is in July, he'll graduate from high school and be able to immediately go on a mission...works out pretty well I'd say. Oh, about that man, if he didn't repeat the grade he would have never met a very successful, beautiful attractive woman to marry.
Coming from a teacher's viewpoint, sometimes it takes children longer to catch up to the average student (boys usually catch up by the end of 1st grade). It may seem like a big sacrifice now but kids this little don't know the difference and there is no stigma attached to repeating. However, as the kids get older, the gap widens and the other kids, not just the adults involved, can see the difference. So it can definitely be better to just them have a fun time in kindergarten for 2 years to give them a chance to develop a little more while they are little. And just think, in high school, he'll be one of the first ones to get his license (I'm not sure if this is point for or against repeating). I teach sixth grade and I wish that some of the parents hadn't been so ready to push their kids ahead when they weren't ready because after kindergarten and 1st grade, it's really not best for them to repeat unless they have to. You are doing what is best for your child!
Just to let you know, I have a very bright, and wonderful student that was held back in kindergarten in my class. He is very capable and just the sweetest boy. He is also one of my top students. No worries! It will all work out :)
Todd's mom kept him back a year and he LOVES it... he was the tallest, smartest, most confident kid... i'm all for it!! Jackson's going to rock at basketball in a few years. :)
